Seek Out Your Opportunities in Life

Seek out the Opportunity

Are you one of the hundreds of individuals who have recently lost their job or as a business owner who has had to close their business due to the current economic environment?  The only way to look on this period is as a new opportunity in your life.  Time to try something new, to do what you have always wanted to do.  Now is the time to make things happen for you and not too you.

If you now find yourself in the position of having to join all those who are searching for a new job then make sure you present yourself first, as potential employers will not come looking for you, you will have to look for them.

Here are 3 key points to consider and provide some support.

1          Have confidence in your abilities and the experiences you have gained

How you think about you will have an impact on your approach to finding a new job or business opportunity.  Too often we pay to much attention to what others will think about us – if this is the case let me say to you – some people spend half of their lives worrying about what other people think of them and the other half of their lives worrying that nobody real cared. What is really important is what you think about you, this is where your energy and concentration must be.  Delete all the negatives thoughts that you may have, (e.g.I’m too old, I’ll never get a new job, I don’t have the skills, etc).  Negative thinking like this will give you the answer you don’t want – no job.

I have met individuals that have said at first it was difficult to loose their job but it was the best thing that ever happened.  Believe in yourself and what you have to offer.

2          You are selling you to your new employer.

What value do you put on your knowledge, experience, skills and attitude for work?  Think about this for a while and try and place some value on your worth.  Your new employer is looking for someone who is confident and that can add value to their business.  Remember your new employer is buying you so don’t under sell your self.  If you are starting a new business opportunity your clients are also buying your skills and trusting you so ensure you demonstrate these attributes.

3          When you believe in you, there is the right job just for you

I wrote on the 26th May 2010 about Frank Crummey – I would suggest you take a leaf out of his book.  Frank was never unemployed and he tried his hand at anything he could.  So try new things and seek opportunities, think outside the normal jobs you may have considered before.  One never knows what they can achieve until they have at least tried.

The skills you used in your previous job are also valuable to your new employer or customers so make sure you show these in a good light.  The right job for you will come along, never give up on what you want in your life.

The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word ‘crisis.’  One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger – but recognise the opportunity.
